Choke Cherry is a species of bird cherry native to North America. It is a suckering shrub or small tree growing to 1- 6 m tall. It is commonly called western chokecherry and Virginia bird cherry. It is somehow related to the black cherry of eastern North America. Choke cherries are very high in antioxidant pigment compounds.
The scientific name for this plant is Prunus virginiana. Additional name for this plant include Common Choke Cherry, Eastern Chokecherry, Red Choke Cherry and Red Chokecherry.
