Coontie Palm is a low growing plant that has reddish seed cones with a distinct acuminate. They may be small but are tough woody cycad of the West Indies. They belong to the family Zamiaceae and type species for the genus Zamia.

The scientific name for this plant is Zamia pumila. Additional name for this plant include Cardboard Palm, Coontie Palm, Cycads And Zamias and Sago Palm.
