Dahlia is a perennial plant that belongs to the Asteraceae family of dicotyledonous plants. They are commonly cultivated as garden plants and a few of its relatives include daisy, sunflower, zinnia and chrysanthemum. Its flower grows only with one head per stem and size could vary from 5 cm to 30 cm. Common plants only have two sets of homologous chromosomes while dahlias have eight. It genetic move from place to place allele thus contributes to their manifesting such great diversity. 

The scientific name for this plant is Dahlia species. Additional name for this plant include Dahlia pinnata and Garden Dahlia.
