Devil’s backbone is a succulent flowering plant in the family Crassulaceae. It has about 125 species and is native to Madagascar and tropical Africa . Kalanchoe was one of the first plants to be sent into space. The genus was first discovered in 1763 by the botanist Michel Adanson.

The scientific name for this plant is Kalanchoe tubiflora. Additional name for this plant include Chandelier Plant, Finger Plant, Kalanchoe, Mother-In-Law Plant and Mother of Millions.
