Oregano is a perennial herb characterized by its spade shaped, olive green leaves and purple flowers.  It is s native to temperate Western and Southwestern Eurasia and the Mediterranean region and are commonly cultivated for their medicinal purposes.

The scientific name for this plant is Origanum vulgare hirtum. Additional name for this plant include Greek Oregano, Origanum and Wild Marjoram.
