Periwinkle is a source of the drugs vincristine and vinblastine used to treat cancer. They are in the family Apocynaceae native and endemic to Madagascar, but grown elsewhere as an ornamental and medicinal plant.
The scientific name for this plant is Vinca rosea. Additional names for this plant include Greater Myrtle, Greater Periwinkle, Running Myrtle, and Vinca.
