The Pigtail Plant is poisonous for both cats and dogs.
Typical symptoms include blistering, convulsions, difficulty swallowing, excessive drooling, intense burning and irritation of mouth, tongue and lips, oral irritation and vomiting.
Pigtail Plant is considered poisonous due to calcium oxalate crystals. The sap is irritating to the skin and eyes. It belonged to the largest genus of the arum family, Araceae. They have leaves that have variable shape and often clustered and inflorescence that bears small flowers which contain male and female structures.
The scientific name for this plant is Anthurium scherzeranum. Additional name for this plant include Flamingo Flower, Flamingo Lily, Flamingo Plant, Heart Flower, Laceleaf, Lady Jane, Oilcloth Flower, Pinter’s Pallet, Pigtail Plant and Tail Flower.
