Pride of India is known as poisonous to humans. It is a species of deciduous tree in the mahogany family Meliacea. This plant was introduced around 1830 as an ornamental in the US  and widely planted in southern states. Pride of India is famous for its high quality timber.

The scientific name for this plant is Melia azedarach. Additional name for this plant include Bead Tree, Cape Lilac, Chinaberry Tree, China Ball Tree, Indian Lilac, Japanese Bead Tree, Paradise Tree, Persian Lilac, Syringa Berrytree, Texas Umbrella Tree and White Cedar.
