Sacred Bamboo or heavenly bamboo originates from the eastern Asia. Regardless of its common name, it is not a bamboo but a straight evergreen shrub that grows up to 7 ft tall by 5 ft wide. This is usually planted in gardens as an ornamental plant since it displays a bright-red fall foliage. The leaves in the spring are bright pink to red before turning green while old leaves turn red or purple again before falling.
The scientific name for this plant is Nandina domestica. Additional name for this plant include Nandina and Heavenly Bamboo.
