Tomato Plant is a common staple in our homes. It is mainly cultivated as food and it originated with the indigenous peoples of Mexico. The history of tomatoes and their popularity began when Aztecs used tomatoes in their cooking while on Spanish conquest. The Spanish then started to like tomatoes and planted their own. From there, it was  introduced to European-colonized world during the 16th century. The word tomato was derived from the Nahuatl word tomati.

The scientific name for this plant is Lycopersicon spp. Additional name for this plant include Extrait De Tomate, Love Apple, Lycopersicon Esculentum, Pomme D’Amour, Pomme D’Or, Raktamaci, Solanum Lycopersicum, Tamatar, Tomate and Tomato Fruit.
