Yews are slow growing trees or shrubs that grow up to 20 meters tall. They are widely cultivated for landscaping and ornamental horticulture since they tend to be long lived. The wood of yew is very spring , which is why it is traditionally used to make bows. Its bark is usually reddish brown, flat with dark green leaves.

The scientific name for this plant is Taxus spp. Additional name for this plant include Common Yew, English Yew, European Yew and Japanese Yew.
